Recycling is subject to many questions. See some insights about industry best practice and ask us your questions
Recovery is the set of processes through which solid or organic waste becomes a new resources be it as a new raw material (recycling), compost or energy (energy recovery)
Recycling is a process through which products or product parts are reintroduced into the economic cycle, at the end of the product’s life. It can be applied to any types of materials: paper, cardboard, wood, glass, ferrous, non-ferrous, plastics, industrial waste
Recycling is an economic activity that has several major benefits:
Finally, Recycling is a centerpiece of the swtich Circular Economy. Recycling optimize ressources utilization and prevents materials to become waste. This made possible by preparing new raw materials that replace very advantageously virgin raw materials!
Since 1970, recycling is incarnated by the ribbon of Möbius (August Ferdinand Möbius, Mathematician and German Astronomer of the 18th Century) in the shape of triangle.
Without any additionnal remarks, the recycling logo simply indicates that the product can be recycled; there is no guarantee that the product will actually be recycled.
However, if accompanied by a percentage, it indicates that the product or packaging contains recycled materials.
Yes and no
Unfortunately, no, because at each recovery cycle, the raw material is gradually deteriorated by the process such that each resource has its own life cycle.
For example, each recycling cycle of a piece of cardboard, results in size reduction of the cellulose fibers which it is made of. Nevertheless, mixing fibers from very varied sources, increase vastly the number of possible recycling cycles
And yes, because there are 3 materials which can be recycled till infinitely: glass, aluminum, and steel.
Once correctly sorted, all ressources follow their own path in dedicated outlets. The use of recycled raw material generates tremendous energy savings. For instance, recycled aluminum required 95% less energy to be fabricated.
Likewise, with one ton of recycled paper, 900 kg of new paper can be produced. And with around 27 plastic bottles, we can manufacture … a fleece sweater.
The use of recycled raw materials makes it possible not only to save energy but also to save fossil raw materials, water and of course reduce CO2 emissions.
